Muse’s Matt Bellamy Seeks Sole Custody in Divorce, Wife Calls Marriage ‘Unbearable’

Muse singer Matt Bellamy is seeking sole custody of his children after filing for divorce. His wife, Elle Evans, described their marriage as difficult. The divorce filing came almost a year after the couple announced their separation.

Matt Bellamy, 48, has filed for divorce from American model and actress Elle Evans. According to TMZ, the legal filing states that Bellamy is asking the court for sole legal and physical custody of their two children, a 6-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

Evans is reportedly planning to fight for custody of their children and called their marriage “unbearable.” She said divorce was “a long time coming.”

The legal document states that the estranged couple has a parenting agreement, and Bellamy is asking the court to grant Evans spousal support in accordance with their prenup.

The estranged couple previously announced their breakup in 2025 before filing for divorce. Bellamy previously said their breakup was due to “really unexpected circumstances.”

In a June 2025 interview with The i Paper, Bellamy said, “Because it’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is. It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”

Elle Evans and Matt Bellamy got married in Malibu in 2019. Bellamy filed for divorce after seven years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and the date of separation has yet to be determined.

Though Evans said she would fight for custody, she has not officially filed a response in court.

Matt Bellamy has not made any public comment on the matter since the divorce filing.
