*Marty Supreme* and *I Love LA* actress Odessa A'zion has announced her exit from a new movie following backlash over her casting.
Controversy bubbled up online after news broke earlier this week that A'zion ā the 25-year-old daughter of *Better Things*' Pamela Adlon ā would star in *Deep Cuts*, an A24-backed adaptation of Holly Brickleyās 2025 novel to be directed by *The Iron Claw* filmmaker Sean Durkin.
The recent Actor Awards nominee was set to portray a half-Mexican, half-Jewish supporting character named Zoe Gutierrez, leading to intense pushback to her casting on social media.**** On Wednesday night, A'zion, who is Jewish but has no Mexican heritage, shared a series of Instagram posts claiming that she initially auditioned for a different role, but was offered the part of Zoe instead ā and that she accepted without reading the full story.

The BAFTA nominee finished with a pair of slides on her Instagram Story, telling fans she's "been so busy with other work" and hadn't had time to read the full script before signing on to the project.
"I wish I found that time sooner and clocked her name. Thatās all thatās mentioned in the script when I just finally did. Thank you thank THANK YOU GUYS FOR LETTING ME KNOW!!!" she continued. "Still havenāt read the book but the story in the script is focused on Percy and Joe, so of course on my initial read that was my main focus as well.
