J Balvin hit the red carpet at the 2026 Grammys as he's being nominated in the Best MĂșsica Urbana Album category for his project Mixteip

"It's always good to represent Latinos," the reggaeton star told PEOPLE exclusively

Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX Halftime Show performance will take place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 8

J Balvin is proudly representing Latin culture and showing support for Bad Bunny ahead of the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

The reggaeton star, 40, spoke exclusively with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly’s respective hosts Janine Rubenstein and Patrick Gomez on the red carpet at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 1. He reflected on the importance of Latino representation on major stages.

“I feel really blessed to be here. It’s always good to represent Latinos. You know, we’ve got to keep showing up. You know, I think that’s really important,” Balvin says.

During the conversation, Balvin — who received a 2026 Grammy nomination in the Best MĂșsica Urbana Album category for his project Mixteip — also referenced his past Super Bowl appearance alongside Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

He praised the solo moment for Bad Bunny (née Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) at the upcoming halftime show.

“We deserve to be in those spaces, you know, as I was saying, we’ve got to keep showing up until they call us like that,” Balvin says. “You know, four years ago, me and Bad Bunny with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira...”

“In my opinion, the best halftime show ever,” Gomez chimed in.

“Oh thank you, thank you, and in my opinion, they’re queens and you know, uh, but then you see that Benito had his own space,” Balvin continues. “I think it’s really beautiful and more now with this immigration situation and ICE [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement], and you know, I’m Latino and that’s my people so I suffer so I’ve gotta stand up for them and I think it’s gotta be really clear about the message."

Balvin’s comments come as heightened immigration enforcement and ICE activity remain a national focus. The singer emphasized that visibility alone can carry weight during moments of social and political tension.

"Just the fact that there’s a Latino on the stage, that’s just too powerful a message," he says.

Rubenstein agreed, adding, “Oh, it’s going to be beautiful.”

The Grammys are broadcasting live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on CBS or stream them live and on-demand on Paramount+.
