Burrito lovers rejoice because this day is just for you, and we have some deals for you to celebrate with.

National Burrito Day is Thursday, April 2, and restaurants are offering discounts to help burrito lovers celebrate.

The burrito can be as simple as adding beans, lettuce and some chicken, then wrapping it up nice and snug in a tortilla, or as complex as a 5-pound monstrosity filled with steak, chicken, guacamole, beans and whatever else you deem appropriate, then wrapping it up in a tortilla. Either way, the iconic Mexican dish has a whole day to celebrate it.

Here's what to know about burritos and the deals being offered on National Burrito Day.

Here are some of the more interesting foods and beverages available this season at major-league stadiums: The "Take Me Out to the Ballgame Milkshake" at Diamondbacks home games is a salted caramel shake with whipped cream, peanut butter sandwich cookies, Kit Kat bars and Cracker Jack.

What is a Burrito?

A burrito is a Mexican dish usually filled with beans, rice, cheese, salsa, veggies and one's choice of meat, such as chicken, steak or pork.

The first time burritos were mentioned was around 1895, Noe Alcala, executive chef of Lucia Mexican Grill at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, told USA TODAY.

Originally, they were "very simple" and were more likely to be ground beef wrapped in tortillas, which made them easier to travel with, according to Alcala.

"They were way different than now," Alcala said.

Tortillas weren't served at American restaurants until the 1930s, according to National Today. They eventually evolved into what we know them as today and can be found at food trucks, grocery stores and restaurants across the country.

Alcala added that burritos were modified in the American melting pot in a similar way to sushi and pizza.

"The only thing kept was the flour tortilla and the protein," Alcala said. "The rest is pretty much what we decided here in the United States, a burrito has to be."
