As soon as Yerin Ha landed the role of Sophie Baek, the leading lady of Bridgerton season four, she was welcomed by the expansive cast of the Netflix regency romance.

She immediately clicked with Luke Thompson, who stars opposite her as Benedict Bridgerton. ā€œHe was always like, ā€˜If you need anything, just always come and talk to me,ā€™ā€ Ha tells Town & Country. ā€œBuilding trust takes time and opening up to someone takes time, and I didn’t want to force that ever, But from the get go, he was like, ā€˜I’m here for you.’ He’s very much aware that because we were the two love interest leads and the couple that we will be carrying each other through this.ā€

Ha adds that she didn’t immediately reach out to anyone for advice. ā€œI wanted to figure out what I needed tips about,ā€ she says of joining the cast. ā€œI’ve still yet to figure out what do I actually feel insecure about? or, what’s something I’m struggling with? I hadn’t known yet, but it was just nice that Luke, Claudia, Hannah, Simone, Nicola reached out immediately from the get-go.ā€

She explains, ā€œThey were like, ā€˜We’re here for you.ā€™ā€ In their outreach, Ha says, they didn’t tell her how to take on the Bridgerton leading role—she had to discover it for herself. ā€œBecause everyone is so unique and everyone has come up from a different background, what their struggles [were] is going to be different to mine. They were like, ā€˜Anytime you need to chat, I’m here.’ Then when I was struggling a bit, they would always validate, be like, ā€˜Trust, I get it.’ And we would have a nice conversation.ā€

Stepping into the Bridgerton fandom is something she’s still navigating. This past fall, Ha starred in Jean Genet’s play The Maids on London’s West End. ā€œAt the stage door, there’d be Bridgeton fans—already with letters and gifts and gosh, they’re so sweet. Really sweet fans telling how much Sophie’s character means to them,ā€ she says. ā€œThat’s actually probably something I will ask Nicola advice on—maybe ā€˜How do you go about it? How do you navigate this?’ And I literally did message her a couple months back being like, ā€˜I probably will take up on that advice, maybe in a little while,’ but until it happens—and until I realize how I feel about it or if I’m struggling with it—I [won’t know]. I guess I’ll find out. I’ll cross that bridge when it comes.ā€
