Kansas men's basketball was looking forward to the arrival of five-star prospect Javon Bardwell in the class of 2027, but he recently announced on social media and told Rivals that he is backing out of his commitment to the Jayhawks.

Additionally, the future is now for Bardwell, as he is also reclassifying into 2026 and can hear offers from any program that is interested.

“After the feedback I have received from my performance at Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy, I have made the decision to reclassify to the class of 2026. I am on track academically, and I feel ready physically and mentally. With that being said, after a lot of prayer and deep conversations with my family, I have also decided to reopen my recruitment," Bardwell posted.

Bardwell also wrote that his decision was not a reflection of Kansas head coach Bill Self or his staff.

It's going to be fascinating to see which schools cobble together enough NIL money very late in the recruiting calendar to bring in a talent like Bardwell for the upcoming season.
