Andreas Weimann went on loan to Rapid Vienna last season

Cheltenham Town have completed the signing of former Bristol City, Aston Villa and Derby striker Andreas Weimann.

The 35-year-old was most recently at the Rams but following the expiration of his contract over the summer joins Steve Cotterill's League Two side on a free transfer.

Weimann played 27 times last season and Pride Park and scored once before going on loan to Austrian Bundesliga team Rapid Vienna.

His career in English football surpasses 19 years and also includes spells at Championship clubs Wolves, West Brom, Watford and Blackburn.

It was during his six seasons at Bristol City he enjoyed his most success, scoring 51 goals with 29 assists in 216 appearances, while in the Premier League at Villa Park at the start of his career he scored 24 times in 129 games.

The Rams announced in May that the centre-forward was out of contract and would not be offered new terms.

Cheltenham manager Steve Cotterill said Weimann, who has been capped 26 times by Austria, brings "proven quality" to the team.

"He has played at a consistently high level throughout his career as well as for his country," he said.

"He has some excellent qualities and we believe he will compliment our attacking options well."
