The "classic and timeless" wedding was attended by 227 guests

Sam Darnold's wedding wasn't just a black-tie affair, it was a star-studded celebration as well.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback married Katie Hoofnagle at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in Rancho Santa Fe, California, on Friday, April 3. The couple, both 28, were joined by their "favorite people," whom they describe to PEOPLE as "friends and family from all chapters of our lives as individuals and a couple." Among the 227 guests were several celebrity friends.

Naturally, many NFL stars showed up to support the groom, including Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen with his wife, Hailee Steinfeld — their first outing since welcoming their first child, a baby girl. The couple's date-night came just one day after they announced the birth of their daughter.

"Hailee and Josh were so sweet on the dance floor, clearly having a blast," a source tells PEOPLE.

"People were politely congratulating them on their baby girl, and they were very kind," the insider continues, adding that "new dad" Allen, along with Darnold's teammates, helped the NFL star and his now-wife Hoofnagle with their "crowd surfing for quite a bit of the night."

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey also attended the wedding with his wife, Olivia Culpo. The couple will celebrate their second wedding anniversary later this summer on June 29.

Other notable current and former professional football players who came to celebrate the newlyweds included: Kyle Allen, Garrett Bradbury, Pat Elflein, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Christian Kirk, Cooper Kupp, Luke Kuechly, Drew Lock, Nick Mullens, Brian O'Neill, Jordan Palmer, Josh McCown, Brett Rypien, Eric Saubert, Blake Cashman, Mike White, and Dan Feeney. Darnold's marketing agent and close friend, Tee Stumb, officiated the ceremony.

Guests adhered to an all-black, black-tie dress code to match the "classic and timeless, black-and-white" wedding aesthetic.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Darnold and Hoofnagle described their nuptials as "the best night" and "so much fun."

"We wanted our guests to dance the night away, and from the second they entered [the reception] we had our band playing to set the energy and it never stopped!" the couple says.
