*Age of Attraction*’s breakout couple has called it quits — but was their 27-year age gap to blame? It depends on who you ask.

Both Theresa, who was 54 at the time of filming, and John, 27 when he caught feelings before knowing his partner’s age, confirmed their breakup to ** in separate interviews during press for the show last month.

“We are not together — and age was the factor,” John told EW. “She just felt weird vibes when we were going out. We [dated] for, like, six months after the show, and she just couldn't take the ... I figure, you know, you make a big deal out of [the age gap], it's a big deal. I felt the whole time that age wasn't a big deal unless she made it a big deal. It got to us.”

Theresa, meanwhile, cited distance (she is from Illinois and he resides in Florida) and communication as to why they couldn’t make it work.

“Long distance is really, really hard on a relationship, regardless of age or anything,” she said. “So that was certainly a challenge for us. We had some communication issues. There were some things that came up — some miscommunications.”

Theresa noted that the twosome was on good terms after a rocky end.

“John and I are in a really, really good place right now. … We did go a period of time where we didn't talk,” she explained. “But around the holidays, we started to talk again and we're in a really great place, both very supportive of each other who knows what could happen.”

John revealed that the exes got dinner the night before the March 11 premiere — and the outing led to at least one of Theresa’s three adult children finally learning his age after she opted not to tell them on the Netflix show.

“Theresa's kids found out my age as of last night,” John said last month. “Lauren found out. … We were at dinner, and she saw the promo and saw my shoes. I was wearing the same shoes. She looked down, she said, ‘I thought you were 35.’”

He concluded, “Theresa can do what she wants with telling the kids the age.”

Theresa recently confirmed to *Glamour* that her sons didn’t discover John’s age until they watched the show.

“So my oldest, Richard, is super poised and has always sort of been the rock for our family. As expected, he just kind of goes with the flow,” she said. “He doesn’t really have a whole lot to say. He understands why it happened the way it did and has the same mentality as I do, that John reads a lot older, and he understands why we went through the entire experience together. So he’s solid. It’s the same thing with my daughter. … My youngest son doesn’t really care, except that he’s getting a lot of flak from his friends right now.”

Theresa added that her kids are “super supportive” of her.

“They want me to be happy. They wanted me to find somebody. Unfortunately, [John] didn’t fit the age range that we had all kind of hoped,” she said. “But aside from the BS that either the public is giving us, or some friends on the periphery, no one was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m never talking to you again.’ One of the other cast members’ daughters did do that, but I’m not going to say who.”

*Age of Attraction*, hosted by Nick Viall and Natalie Joy, was officially picked up by Netflix for season 2.
